ODIN Protocol (12)2021

ODIN, along with Wallace, is GeoDB's main blockchain product on the market. The protocol consists, among other services, of cryptocurrencies such as ODIN or Doki, a DeFi mainnet where users can propose and vote for network updates, or an online game fueled by NFT cards called 9Worlds.

Due to the density and technicality of ODIN's narrative, its branding deviates from blockchain branding standards and flirts with editorial design executions in order to make its communication structured and accessible enough.

ODIN is an acronym for Open Data Interoperable Network and this is not a coincidence. In order to the future development of NFTs and games, the marketing department decided to position the project's concept on Norse mythology and capitalize that lore. So the acronym came before the meaning.

ODIN's wordmark consists of a custom hard-angled serif typography where the "O" glyph represents both Odin's iconic (pun intended) eyepatch and a viking shield.

If I learned anything playing God of War: Ragnarök, it's that where Odin is, there are crows. They were his eyes on the world and provided him with the information they gathered from the 9 worlds. Meant to be used as a secondary mark, a simple and stylized depiction of a crow complements the set.

Abusing of the extensive, but coherent and recognizable, branding's palette, the art direction intends to be sharp, vivid, and slightly provocative.

The negative space in the eyepatch symbol is amusingly used overpositioning it on faces, reinforcing ODIN's motto "Invest like a God".

This same resource is also used in abstract compositions resembling datablock chains.

The simplicity of ODIN's symbol makes it perfect to carry the brand's recognizition labour. Its circular shape ensures correct visualization and perfect adaptation to crypto-listing sites' UI such as CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko.
